 Bleacher Report “At the Dish”

BRAND identity | DIRECTION | MOTION GRAPHICS | | SOUND

Bleacher Report’s At the Dish is a vibrant docu-series celebrating the global roots of Major League Baseball. Hosted by former All-Star Curtis Granderson, the show spotlights international players and the cultural threads that connect their lives on and off the field.

I developed the visual identity for the series, creating the logo, color palette, and motion system that shaped its look and feel. From the opening sequence and lower thirds to animated transitions, the design brings energy, warmth, and personality to stories that blend baseball, heritage, and community.

Logo

For the logo, I wanted to capture the essence of the series - baseball, culture, and food. I played with the idea of “home base” and “home country,” shaping the word Dish into a home plate to tie those themes together. I also drew inspiration from retro diner logos, since each episode centers around sitting down to share a meal, diners felt like the perfect symbol of comfort and connection. The final design took the form of a pizza peel, tying together the idea of sliding into home plate and sliding a fresh pie out of the oven, a playful nod to both the game and the table.

Animation

For the opening animation, I wanted to create a seamless blend of baseball and food. I explored the shared geometry between baseball fields and food dishes, using circular shapes and spinning motions to mimic both a plate sliding across a table and a player sliding into home. The sequence celebrates the global flavors of the game, spotlighting dishes that reflect the players’ diverse heritages.

It opens with a bird’s-eye view of a baseball field that transitions into a plate of jollof rice and a Dominican tripleta. A quick jump cut transforms a baseball falling from the sky into a meatball landing on spaghetti. From there, a fluid transition leads to a pitcher winding up, the batter connects and the ball instantly turns into a sliced tomato. The camera pushes through as more dishes like pancakes and poke bowls fly past, ultimately revealing the logo.
